Corpus Christi, TX + Weekend Getaway

Husband had a political event to attend in Corpus Christi this week.  I decided to tag along to keep him company on the road trip down, and to spend time soaking up the sun at the hotel pool....basically do nothing except get a tan.

We stayed at the Omni Hotel down on the bay.  We had a gorgeous view and the room was amazing. Downtown Corpus is basically a ghost town, so the only busy areas were around the newer restaurants.

For lunch we hit up Executive Surf Club and enjoyed the fish and chips.  Afterwards we headed over to Corpus' main attraction, the USS Lexington Aircraft Carrier.  The ship is massive, and I didn't take a ton of pictures, but oh well. We still had a great time. You can easily spend about 3 hours on the ship going through all of the portions of the carrier.  We were headed back that evening for the gala for Husband's political event so I knew we would have more time to enjoy it.

All dressed up for the gala...Texas style of course.  Who can say that they've had dinner on an air craft carrier?!  Pretty cool.

The next day we drove back to Dallas, but took the long way down and hit up Padre Island just so we could see the gulf.  For August the water was pretty chilly. Fun in the sun before the long car ride home.

For a quick weekend trip, it was great to get a way and have a change of scenery with the water and the warmer weather.  Corpus is definitely not an exciting town, but I'm glad we got to make the most of it for the short time we were here.
