Miniature Horses + Mabank, TX Weekend Getaway

We needed to get away. This year hasn't been perfect by any means, and for us, we decompress by traveling.  We haven't gotten to do much of that this year, as you can see from my lack of multiple posts a month. We've made the most of it, but we needed a weekend just to get a way from the noise of life.

I told Husband I just wanted a cabin, in the middle of nowhere, with a lake or pond to look out over, with a rocking chair, and a cup of coffee, and no internet access.  We needed to be CUT OFF! Sometimes you need that, ya know?

We ended up lucking out with a little Airbnb stay in Mabank, TX.  This has been by far THE most unique Airbnb experience we've ever had.  It was a small cabin on a cattle farm in the middle of nowhere, and the best part...they had MINIATURE PONIES...and an alpaca, and a little ranch dog...AND Scottish Highland Cattle!  Pretty amazing.

Look who greeted us upon our arrival!  So cute!

There were two very friendly miniature horses, and they loved to be loved.

They would greet us every morning and try to come up on the front porch.

It rained the entire weekend, which was so peaceful.  We would just sit on the porch, and talk about life, changes, and what life would look like in the next 6 months.  We decided that part of the process for being able to conquer the mess of 2015, was to be more content.

Here are some of my notes from how we are choosing to be more content.  This may not be the solution to everything, but a large part in how you handle tough times is your response. We spent a lot of time in prayer and worship during the entire weekend.  The cabin and surrounding peacefulness with the animals made a great environment to rest, relax, pray, and connect with each other.

Here's the not-so-friendly alpaca out by the lake.  He was a little skittish.

Scottish Highland Cattle have long hair and horns.  They like to stay cool in the Texas heat.  The people that run the farm are one of a handful of breeders in the nation.

There was also a sweet little ranch dog who kept us company too. He even brought us a half-alive rabbit to show us how much he loved us.  Eesh.

Our last morning at the cabin we said our goodbyes to the animals and gave the horses one last apple and some bread for good measure. We were so thankful to just get out of the city for a short weekend and have a change of scenery.
