Front Door Makeover

This is our front door. Our pitiful, falling apart, front door. The screen door is broken in several places.  Shadow the puppy had completely ripped the screen and so it was basically a glass door.  The paint around the door frame has been cracked and peeling.  Our mailbox is rusted and hanging on by one screw.  Our house numbers are in the same condition.  The lanterns are filled with wasps nests, and the door itself is just ugly.

It's time for a change! I have been wanting to give the front porch a little makeover to bring things together a little more.  In our town home group we have many neighbors who have the most adorable front porch areas and I couldn't take it any longer.

The first thing we did was shop around for a new front door. I was set on a craftsman style door and I did a little shopping around in the DFW area and found Saginaw Surplus.  We ended up in a matter of 10 minutes finding the exact style door that I had set my heart on, and within days it was delivered and installed! First item accomplished!

The next initiative was to paint around the door frame and around some of our exterior stucco to make sure everything had a fresh coat on it. Turns out that our stucco on the side didn't even match the original paint! Sheesh!

Much better! The next thing I wanted to do was cover the concrete porch.  We thought about a layer of bricks, but that wouldn't work with the height. There weren't too many alternatives but thankfully we ended up finding a cheaper alternative at IKEA.  The Runnen floor decking was a wonderful solution to sprucing up the porch and it was very easy to install. It's also extremely affordable if you are covering a small area.

Loved the way it turned out! The last 3 items on my list were the lanterns, mailbox, and the house numbers.  We found some modern brushed nickel house numbers at Home Depot and stained a piece of wood to mount them on.  We used the same stain as the front door and it added some uniformity.

I also wanted to match the brushed nickel with our lanterns and found these at Home Depot as well.

The mail box was the last element and I found the perfect one at Pottery Barn.

Final project completion.
