Patio Makeover

I LOVE townhome life.  From living in an apartment to an old house that we dumped a ton of money into with no return....I love living in a town house. You have the best of both worlds.  We have a pool - that we don't have to clean or tend to.  We have the opportunity to customize and create inside our home and make it our own.  We don't have a lawn to mow, which my husband would argue is actually a downside. And if anything goes wrong with the roof or exterior, we don't have to foot the bill.  We have just enough space for us and I love the area and neighborhood that we live in.  Our townhome group was built in the 80's and there have been some units that have been drastically updated, and others not so much.  I have the huge blessing of having a husband who is a master builder and construction/DIY/all-things-home ninja and so anything that my heart desires as far as a change of scenery, he can do. :::swoon:::

Ever since we moved back into the townhome, which used to be my husband's bachelor pad before we got married, we have been dying to change up our little patio area.  We had huge concrete squares of composite concrete that

1) Killed your feet to walk on because it was similar to stepping on knives due to the tiny pebbles.

2) Basically melted your feet in the summer because it was the temperature of molten lava

...so there's that.

This summer (worst decision ever) we decided that we wanted to lay black slate stone to give the patio a different and updated feel. My poor and sweet husband and father-in-law slaved away in the Texas summer sun to complete this project.

We picked up the tile from Floor N More in Ft. Worth.  They always have excellent deals running on flooring and tile for your home. In this picture the tile is shown with a slight haze over it since at this point we hadn't sealed anything off.

Husband getting down and dirty.  If you'll notice in the pictures above we had an awkwardly shaped plot of dirt over in the corner...a.k.a Shadow the Puppy's poop yard.  In order to have a perfect square where we could lay turf for him, we had to fill in part of the area with concrete. God bless my husband y'all!

Finally - a patio we can enjoy! Shadow seemed to love it too.
